Embracing Sustainable Futures through a Futures Thinking Workshop Based on Doughnut Economics

Today Fenton Town Hall hosted a transformative Futures Thinking Workshop for members of the Collaborative Network in Stoke. This workshop, rooted in the principles of Doughnut Economics, marks a step towards empowering local communities to envision and build a more resilient and equitable future.

The Collaborative Network in Stoke: A Hub of Innovation and Cooperation

The Collaborative Network in Stoke is a vibrant community of forward-thinking individuals, organizations, and businesses dedicated to fostering collaboration and innovation. This network serves as a crucible for new ideas and initiatives that aim to address local challenges and leverage opportunities for sustainable development. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, the Collaborative Network provides a fertile ground for collective action and shared growth.

Doughnut Economics: A Model for Sustainable Development

Doughnut Economics, conceptualised by economist Kate Raworth, presents a holistic framework for balancing human prosperity with ecological sustainability. The “doughnut” represents a sweet spot where social needs are met without overshooting environmental limits. This model emphasizes the importance of creating an economy that serves both people and the planet, ensuring a safe and just space for all.

Informing the Wider Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent COP Programme

The workshop, facilitated by The Globe Group CIC, introduced participants to the core concepts of Doughnut Economics and engaged them in dynamic discussions about the future of their communities.

This workshop is a part of our broader efforts to better understand the needs, wants, and aspirations of the people in our communities. By actively engaging with community members and organisations, we are gaining valuable insights that will inform and shape future initiatives.

The insights and feedback from this workshop will play a significant role in informing the wider Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent COP (Community of Practice) programme. This programme aims to foster a cohesive and comprehensive approach to sustainability and community development across the region. By integrating local perspectives and aspirations, we are ensuring that our strategies and actions are aligned with the community’s vision for a sustainable future.

Thank you to Danny and Caitlin that helped to make this event possible.
